Northbrook Plan Commission hearing on ADUs

Accessory Dwelling Units are residential units smaller in area to the primary residence on a property. This hearing will be on the issue whether or not ADUs should be allowed in Northbrook Single Family Residential Districts. See the agenda packet here.

ADU’s provide (from Go Green Northbrook):

  • Nearby housing for our seniors, divorced parents, young adults, working poor, disabled folks, and all those who want to live a lower impact lifestyle cutting transportation time, thus reducing energy use and curbing air pollution.

  • Reduced energy needs because the homes are smaller than a typical newly constructed home. Bills for heating, cooling and lighting are low.

  • The advantage of using existing building structures such as basement apartments and over garage units thus reducing materials manufacture and transportation.

  • The bonus of no additional Village infrastructure or maintenance needs such as parks, roads, waterlines, etc., reducing carbon emissions.
The meeting can be attended in-person at Village Hall and viewed live online on Facebook for Go Green Northbrook or NCTV Channel 17 (AT&T U-verse customers tune to Channel 99 and search "Northbrook").
